Big Box with a Star on the Corner

Seattle, WA

This is a 50 year old tradition at the Macy's store in
downtown Seattle. The local papers recently did an interview
with the star's original designer.

I brought the tripod to work that day (I ride a bus to work), with intent of visiting Seattle Center (location of the Space Needle). I got this shot on the way back to the bus.

Nice work Charlie. Do you walk around with a tripod or did you find something to set he camera on? -COAmature

I like how the big star is echoed in a couple of the starburst streetlights - b.c.

It is the star that is frequently photographed. Displaying the store as though it were a gift-wrapped box is my notion of "out of the box."

Nice shot and well captured, Charlie. In truth, tho, it doesn't seem that far out of the box. "One of the most photographed", etc. Cheers, -mikey

Thanks, Kelly. I had noticed that too. Several images in this gallery have that same problem. I will try re-loading the image when I get home tonight.

Strange - the thumbnail shows up fine, but when I looked at the full version, nothing. Charlie - FYI & FWIW. - Kelly

Many thanks for the comments. I think this star is one of the most photographed subjects in Seattle this time of year. I wanted to be a bit different, by including moving traffic and pedestrians in the scene.

What a fabulous effect! Thanks for capturing it for us to enjoy, Charlie. It's wonderful. ~Lydia

I like that they used red spotlights to create the ribbon effect. Great capture. John

Very nice night shot and does look like a gift box and bow.
