Cigarette Box

Seattle, WA

This is a concrete pylon, about 3 feet tall.
There is a line of these things around the parking area
near the Seattle Space Needle. They keep cars from
driving on the grass, I suppose. Someone thought it would
be a good place to store their half-smoked cigarette, for later use.

LOL @ Doug entertaining himself! *smile* Thanks for the link to the whole pylon, Charlie. What an interesting object. I wouldn't have imagined its shape from this photo. Why does it have the hole? Seems like they lift it with the loop. The optical illusion really works well. ~Lydia

I hadn't planned on creating an optical illusion. Here is a link to another photo of this pylon, with a wider view:

By "square" I meant cigarette. I think the cigarette inside the square surrounded by rectangle makes the picture. I'm so darn witty sometimes. -COAmature

What a relief from so many mind blowing ps tricks. Thank Charlie. I think this could be called "Homage to Joseph Albers - the Incredible Sinking Square". :-) Nice one tells a sorta story. -tv

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. I'll take another look at the original over the weekend. You are looking at about 50% of the area of the pylon. It is about 3 feet high, and the hole is about 4 inches on a side. I'm not sure if this is obvious, but the rectangular hole is cut all the way through the concrete. It therefore really is a "box," but the box is a hole within the pylon.

I agree, Doug... IF the image were square. But, the square centered in a rectangle ... I dunno... I'd try cropping it to the square being in the upper left with equal amounts of yellow on top and left. But, of course, everyone's got an opinion. That's just mine. *smile* ~Lydia

The "square" placed inside the square makes this for me. -COAmature

Very interesting and pleasing image, Charlie. I wonder how it would look with the square out of center? ~Lydia
