The more opinions the better Penny, glad to see you join in as we can learn a lot from different viewpoints.

As the newbie, I realize I might be sticking my neck out but here goes -
I think that a camera takes a picture and photoshop is a useful art tool that can then change (or even create anew!) the picture. They can both be art, but they aren't the same thing. Ansel Adams was a photographer. Does that include photoshop?
Not in his case.
I will have to be around longer before understanding or evaluating all the complaints in this forum. All the comments are interesting, though.

I agree with most of what you said Julie except "great photograph" This is a created graphic using photographs. Great photographs I think normally contain a truth. This can be art just not photography art, I think there's a difference.

Very clever dtall. Photoshop to your heart's content, as far as I am concerned, if it creates a new vision. makes someone smile or sends a message. I only wish I were clever enough to do the same. Great photograph. Julie

the white koi seems to be looking up out of the box. if it weren't for look of where the water meets the box I would have thought this was "real" - otherwise looks great - even if it is a PS creation :-) - b.c.

The common denominator of success - the secret of every man who has ever been successful lies in the fact that he formed the habit of doing things that failures don't like to do. -- Albert E. N. Gray

Not sure what you're trying to say here, Rod. That's French innit? I always thought you were an Aussie bloke. Now you're speaking French to me and I'm getting all tingly feeling like me missus is whispering sweet French nothings in my ear. Well, at least I'm sure about the French nothings. Cheers, -mikey

The lowest common denominator becomes de rigueur in Mikey's new advanced world. A double exposure created in Photoshop is a graphic, a double exposure done in the camera is a wanky looking picy..................Wiv a few exceptions done by real artists:-) Cheers mate:-)

Great concept, well executed, d. The second take is better, I think. That's my favorite box, as well ";^) All the hoo-haa over being PSed or not is pure bull excrement. This is merely today's way of producing an *advanced* double exposure, IMhO. Ahhh, they say, but a double exposure is obviously so. Well that's why todays form is *advanced*. A double exposure so well done that it wasn't obvious wouldn't be called "Graphic Art", would it (Rod)? Cheers, -mikey

I love the postal theme you got going here dtallakson! Do you work for the USDS? LOL - Well done! - Kelly

Another nicely executed Photoshop creation. But I think that makes it "not" a photograph but a graphics montage. Nothing wrong with that but... -tv

This is a photoshop creation? I thought it was a waterproof box. -COAmature

Rod, stop picking on the new guy or I'll tell him you LOVE drop shadows so to "be sure and put them on all of your picys". *grin* (Rodbam hates drop shadows too, but I like them, so sometimes I do it just to annoy him. *wink* He takes it like a man, anyway.)
Dtallakson, PS to your heart's content. You do great stuff and I always enjoy seeing your humorous take on life in your photos. Rod's right that there's no general rule against PSing -- if it's not in the description for the specific Challenge, then we're free! *wink* ~Lydia

Very clever idea and works really well!!
Just think how rich you'd be if you discovered waterproof cardboard! :)
Rod 07-Dec-2007 07:52
As far as I know you can Photoshop all you want too dtallakson, just because I don't think it's conducive to learning photography & is only my opinion. You shouldn't move it to pending on just one bad review & Lydia luv's it:-)
Rod 07-Dec-2007 07:06
I don't find these Photoshop creations very appealing as photographs, so a yuck from me mate:-)
ctfchallenge07-Dec-2007 02:21
Yes, good work! And you got rid of that poor fish that had been cut in half, too. I'm sure he's more comfortable. *wink* This is a really fun image, dtallakson! ~Lydia
ctfchallenge07-Dec-2007 02:16
Yes, you're right. I also forgot the shadow they would cast on the bottom of the box. I think this one is better. Yes, those are some of my babies! d.tallakson

I like the idea of this very much, dtallakson. It's very realistic except for a minor nitpick of the water along the edge of the box. Since the koi are being so wild in there, it seems the water would be not so level in the box. Gorgeous koi! Are they yours? ~Lydia
