Thanks all. For the record, BTW, it's late afternoon. :) ~ Lonnit

I didn't see the original, Lonnit, but this one works really well. I've always loved the way the morning light (I'm assuming it's morning) paints the colors of those old buildings, and you've captured it perfectly.

This crop works really well.

I like it even more now than I thought I would. rich

Thanks. I do really prefer it. This is that it's gotten to be a fairly small part of the original. It was shot with the fish, and thru the dirty car windshield to boot - how's THAT for a testimonial to the quality of the lens!!!! The original even included a bit of dashboard and the rear corner of the car parked in front of us on our side of the street. I'd cropped so much on the first version already. I guess I didn't want to push it further, but I knew I should have - obviously. :) ~ Lonnit

Yes, looks great! Another alternative that could be interesting is to crop the bottom even more, right where the leftmost building meets the sky so you get a diagonal running from the top right corner to bottom left corner with two equal triangles, but we may be closer to an excersise in geometry than photography then :) Anyway, I quite like the dark edge at the bottom that sort of cuts off the light.

Yup, the croping looks much better now

and by popular demand.... the new improved version! :) Thanks for the input guys. By the light of a new day, and more time to play with the crop, I'm much happier with it now. :) I hope you are too! ~ Lonnit

I really like it Lonnit but (IMHO)I too would crop out 1/3 of the bottom and to the edge of building on right giving it the impression that the buildings continue off to infinity. rich

You're seeing it right. The bottom half is quite dark with prety much only the car windows visible. I did go back and fourth over and over on the crop before posting it. I couldn't decide whether or not to crop out the bottom. After several flip-flops I went with this. I sort of liked the suggestion of the cars at the bottom, otherwise it just seemed like the buildings were sitting in the middle of nothing. I liked the contrast of the darkness against the rich, saturated colors. The dark also added some mystery and interest in trying to see what's there. I guess I got hooked on the mystery in the shadows on my last self portrait! LOL! ~ Lonnit

The light really brings out the nice colours of these buildings. I think I'd try to crop it quite a bit closer though. The bottom half is too dark on my monitor but from what I see, it doesn't look that interesting anyway so I think I'd cut away most of the bottom half. Then cut a bit on all three other sides to get a nice triangle from the blue sky (cut down to the roof in the upper right corner, to the edge of the last building on the left and cut so the 'notch' on the top right roof is removed) to get a panoramic format with a top triangle of blue and a bottom triangle with those lovely warm colours.
