Beautiful :-) Love it. It would make for a great poster. The lighting is really great. - Techo

Light, color, symmetry and drama... beautiful. Don

Ahhhhhh, much better! But even better than the lower halo is that the rim lighting looks more natural, softer, and the rim light overcontrast is normalized too. Just loverly! ~ Lonnit

Thanks Lonnit, I missed that. I've re-processed the image to be a bit more selective about the sharpening - I think the softer edges give the orange a more subtle 'glow' that works better for me anyway.

"It's a beauty Ralph!" Nice with the rim lighting on the upper right, but that's oversharpening halo on the bottom I see, both sides, right? Really lovely shot. :) ~ Lonnit

Aha! the old ST-E2 trick! Should have think of that :)

Thanks for the positive comments, your positive feedback is very encouraging and much appreciated :)
The orange isn't propped up at all, it's very carefully balanced! For that reason alone this photo took ages to capture, and when I finally got it to stay put I had time to fire off about half a dozen shots before it fell over again. This was the tightest crop and the one I like best.
The flash is fired remotely using an ST-E2 wireless transmitter.

You've got my vote Andrew. Has everything I really like - abstract design, brilliant color, great use of light, just enough variety to make it interesting even with the central subject. Very fine. Ann C

Andrew, excellent execution and result. Thanks for the technical details. Am curious about 2 things: first, how did you prop the orange slice upright, and secondly, did you use some sort of extension cord to connect your flash to your camera?

I tried to do just that with a watermelon and.. yuck! Looks like an anatomical preparation. Yours, on the other hand, looks great, even the shape of the light below the citrus.
