Beautiful composition and subject. (My first thought for this challenge was for something similar--but I couldn't get the old pocket watch I have opened :)). --mlynn

Thanks Najinsky for the welcome and comment. I do wonder if it's worth paying for a colour calibrator/spyder as the on screen colour of some other photos looked quite different from the shop prints.
I have to admit that the 60mm has spent most of it's life on the shelf since I bought it. It's definately going to get used more often now. Cheers.

Welcome to the challenge Peter. I love the textures and the delicacy captured here. The colour looks different on my calibrated Mac and my work PC (which has an over-constrasty and dark monitor). At work it is just a touch above steel, very slight sepia. On the Mac it is much richer and pretty much as you describe, slightly undersaturated sepia. At least your looks good either way. I sometimes post one from the Mac and then see it on the work PC and it looks awful. Another thumbs-up for that lens, I love mine. -Najinsky

Well spotted on the moving part (escape wheel??). It took several attempts to capture it as it's moving pretty fast even after 100 or so years. I'm in awe of the Swiss craftsmanship of many years ago. Thanks again for your kind words, the 60mm macro works well. Lighting was natural through a window with a filtered desk lamp to create some shadow...no expensive kit here ;)

Just peeked back for another look... and really just wanted to reiterate that this must be one of the more splendid clockwork pics I have seen - ever! Compliments.

Excellent image capture and processing. I love the detail. Welcome to the Challenge. You know, I just purchased the 100 Macro due to all of the great shots I've seen here with it, and now there are all these awesome images with the 60. Oh well. --AussieDawg

Beautifully executed.
Removing the color was an excellent decision, It leads me to explore the contrast in textures of the different machined parts. As I further explored your image, I was captured by the motion blur of the escape wheel spinning in the background against the razor sharp focus of the gears and spring - I love this Image!

Well done Peter and welcome. Nice effect you produced here and an interesting composition. Watch mechanisms really fascinate me and this is well photographed.

Flip, I'm surprised by all your comments so quickly. What an encouragement to shoot more! Thanks to all.

dtallakson - cheers for clearing that up about, I was worried about the colour.

That's a beautiful capture, Peter. Regarding the sepia tone, it looks perfect on my monitor. dtallakson

Welcome! And what an excellent post. If this is any hint of what the future holds, the rest of us will have to shift up a gear or two! :-)

That lens is something else, not so? I just love mine. Regards Nico

I am using a new Samsung SyncMaster Monitor which has not been calibrated so the colour might be a bit off. It should be a slightly unsaturated sepia.
The colour was removed in PS using the lab colour process and colourised.
