Thanks Naj, for your kind comments :)

Lol :) Nico ... thats funny!! man .. you are being very kind again :) If it makes you happy I'll take a bow .:)

The lighting setup was pretty simple actually .. I call it the "Po Boy's Strobe" :P .. I used my Dell 20" monitor and had the wall-paper set to 'Vortex' (one of the many available in Windows XP) this gave the blue lighting, the hard disk was placed on a black t-shirt on a stack of books abt 5-7 inches from the monitor .. for the yellow/golden light I used a flashlight and my girlfriend was very kind enough to hold the flashlight steady for 8-10s .. it was fun trying out various angles and timings for the light .. :)

I did not have this final image in my mind when I took the picture, it surprisingly materialized itself when I was trying all crops in photoshop.

I have been back a couple of times to peek again. Simply stunning. Wow! I like it very much. May I ask how you lit this? You can take another bow... or two or three as far as I am concerned. Did I mention that I like it? Quite inspired to make it look wet. I don't think I would have thought of that in a million years. Oh, yes, and I case I haven't mentioned: I really like it. :-) Regards Nico

Thanks Lydia, Nico, Trav, Olaf, Melbob, Kelly and others :) for your kind and encouraging comments.

Nico, that is very flattering .. :) Thank you very much.

Trav, I did try to leave out the head but I couldn't do so without actually ripping it off. And I didn't want to rip it out just yet. :)

Olaf, I was wondering that myself :) Like you, I had tossed out my broken disks and had to borrow one from my colleague.

Melbob, I don't think this disk has seen light since 1980s. And you're right, it's about time it takes a swim to celebrate.

Yuvraj! This is most excellent! - Kelly

This really is impressive...as is the 8 sec at f14 and iso 100. I know that you like people knowing what this is, but, in some future version this is...equally interesting with a crop that excludes the reading arm. Best Wishes, Traveller

Great shot Yuvraj, I guess it has passed its 'use by' date and gone for a swim to celebrate?

Love the lighting. ~ Regards Melbob

As late as last night (it's morning here now), I was surprised that no-one had photographed a hard disk. I would have done it myself, but I tossed my broken hard disks not very long ago... Nicely lit - the spectrum of color is appealing!
