There's actually a significant difference between a traffic circle and a roundabout. Austin has only one roundabout as far as I know, and quite a few traffic circles. The lone roundabout is quite new. Texans generally get very confused with roundabouts, let alone magic roundabouts which would cause total gridlock here. If you don't know what I'm talking about, google it. -- Victor

:-) Melbob, is that some new and innovative Aussie way of dealing with the ageing population issue? :-) Hope not! :-)

Victor was right was always: it is part of a mini-traffic circle (I think it is called a "roundabout" in some parts of the world). A wide angle view is athttp://www.flickr.com/photos/jnconradie/437862291

We have target spots like that on our roads too.... you stand an old person on them and try and run them over.... You get 10 points for a score!... double that if you knock down an old couple! ... Melbob

Some street-surface signage of some sort I expect, but I can't think what such white would abut to the yellow like that. -- Victor
