Main Road on Planet Alpha-X3

Pretoria, South Africa

I have some doubts of my own whether this can really be called a road or a pathway.
Delighted to hear from others and happy to delete.

Very striking, and I like the composition. It does appear otherworldly. --Melanie

Quite effective...It literally compels me to go on and climb it...

Thanks for the comments.

Bob, I am thankful to say there is a elevator to the top... which is about 6 storeys from the ground! :-)

Michael - this domed structure is contained within a larger main building, so effectively one was staring into a very deep, dark, corner of a huge granite building. (And I played with contrasts and levels a bit to ensure it is really pitch-black.

If you were to do a search in flickr for "voortrekker monument" you will find many other shots of this place (example:http://www.flickr.com/photos/mister-e/196193712 which gives some sense of scale.)

I like it! Neat abstract, Nico. If you're looking down in this pic, what happened to the b/g? Did you take it at night? Regards, -mikey

You really have some interesting architecture there Nico... but.... that would be a difficult ladder to climb wouldn't it? Regards, Bob

... I was hoping somebody might be hiding some amazing roads, paths or passageways up there... :-) ... but I can now confirm that there were none, only ladders. :-) :-) Regards ~jnconradie. (I was trying to shoot some architectural abstracts inside this unique building.)

So what the heck were you doing UP THERE (on the dome, not the moon, or the planet)?!!! ~ Lonnit

Thanks, Julie. Much appreciated.

Lonnit, you are too funny! :-)

I find this one very hard to explain in writing. I wrote a whole mini-novel about "what this is" in my flickr photostream athttp://www.flickr.com/photos/jnconradie/313218013 but even then I am not sure that it will help much. Would you mind if I refer you there, rather than to repeat the whole story here?

Thanks for looking and for commenting. Regards ~jnconradie

What the heck is it? I thought you took it on the moon, then I saw that I was mistaken and you were actually on Alpha X-3. Geez, I'll never get those two straight! Same way I always want to call what's his face Christopher Walkin, but then when I want to come up with Christopher Walkin's name, I get stuck! Oh, crap, now what is his name? The tall blonde guy? Soft spoken? He was in Wedding Crashers. Awwg! ~ Lonnit

To me it looks like a pathway. I really enjoy the angle and B&W choice.
