I knew this was a Victor shot before I opened the thumbnail because of the subject, the title, and the shot itself. As usual, very meticulous attention to detail here. Lovely lighting, composition, and tonal range. Excellent. Jim H.

Very nice capture of this very strange looking plant Victor. Sounds like you really pay attention to details with your setup and processing, and here's an example of a payoff for your efforts.

It's the same background used for Prime Yoke in the Minimalism Challenge (#55) but with different lighting and post-processing (a piece of colored foam board, chosen because its color complements egg yoke). My high-tech equipment this time, by the way, was a sheet of paper. In order to get the depth of field I needed, and since the plant is a vine (hence moving), I needed a narrow aperture and a short exposure. That meant using flash. I used my Vivitar flash at full power so I could use ISO 100. The sheet of paper was held between the hot-shoe mounted flash and the subject. The background was still a bit noisy for my tastes, so I applied a curve with a very narrow adjustment area to reduce the contrast over the range of the background. -- Victor

Wow! From complicated composites in one Challenge to colourful close-ups in the next - you are exceedingly versatile as photographer, Victor. Great colours and perfect composition. Regards ~jnconradie

Very elegant, Victor. Your background is so smooth, creamy, and rich...what was it? -Michael

Yes it is. Common names include "Rosary Vine", after the string of tubers the vine makes, "Chain of Hearts" after the string of heartshaped leaves,"Dutchman's pipes", although that name usually goes to Aristolochia. Another species of Ceropegia (C. ampliata) has a common name "Horny Wonder" for its phallic appearance.

This species, C. woodii, has small flowers, sized to attract fruitflies, which venture into the flower and then can't escape, due to the downward-pointing hairs. -- Victor

Nice shot. Is this a flowering vine?
