From the thumbnail it looked like a keyboard but this is so different. Like a scene from the Twilight Zone. Very cool. ~kt

Amazing setup. Totally balanced between large shapes (shadow) and details, just enough to confuse the mind.

Jim, I'm not really sure, but I think the lights are near the top, which has a rather unique design. It's a building that seems to be either loved or hated. I'll try to find out more specifically about the lights and report back. -- Victor

That is neat :) Where are the lights that are creating that effect? Are they around the base of the building? In any case, the photo is great. Jim H.

Superb!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love that you don't realize on first glace that they are buildings, not steps. Wonderful processing too! I think you've found your calling - put this in your best of file!! Kudos. :) ~ Lonnit

That was fast! I've seen Metropolis several times, including the recent restored version and another version using that as the picture but with live music. It's a wonderful film. I can see where you see the similarity, but that was not my goal.

My main goals in my workflow were to call attention to the square shadow, maintain appropriate detail in the buildings, and mask the ugly pattern noise. There are other techniques that are more effective at the latter than what I chose, but nothing that I found with more pleasing results (else I would have used it).

Last night is the first time I've noticed the shadow in the sky. I was stunned, particularly since I'm usually pretty good at noticing this sort of thing. -- Victor

This is wonderful, Victor! It makes me think of the old silent movie "Metropolis". Good work! ~Sharon
