This is pure joy! Great job. I had no idea portaits at such a wide angle could be anything more than a caricature, so this is a revelation to me. This is very inspiring and instructive. Thanks! -- Bruce

I was really torn on this one in sepia. It looked great, but it was really hard to make out those feet back there. Right now the only thing that makes one realize the feet are there is the skin color. When I go tonal on it I lose that. But you're right, it does look great toned. 3 points for you for picking up on that! :)

As for the halo, he's working on it. He and his twin brother are struggling with ADHD, caused by food additives. We've been on the Feingold Diet http://www.feingold.org) for 6 mo and they've made tremendous progress. He's finally realizing the consequences of his reactions, and of not controlling his impulses, and now he actually feels true remorse for his misdeeds. Pre-diet, the words 'no', 'don't', 'stop', etc., seemed to have absolutely no effect on them. So that halo really isn't your imagination running wild - he's really earned it and I'm so proud of him! :) ~ Lonnit

He needs a halo to make this picture complete. ;)

Lonnit, a completely charming perspective and rather joyful image. I love the extreme contrast in lighting on the face...I find that type of lighting very difficult to pull off and you've done it most successfully. (*) I also wonder how the image would look in b&w. I suspect color is rather incidental here and the marvelous lighting and sparkling eyes might even be stronger in b&w. -Michael

Very cute kid, Lonnit! This shot just makes his eyes sparkle. -- Jeannie (jburly)

No, I didn't notice that his feet were behind him. It just looks like bluejean legs below his arms. Shu

Cute shot and kid! Just the right amount of distortion from the fisheye. theFly

Thanks for the feedback guys. :) Boy Gayle, I really had you confused! Glad I explained it. :) ~ Lonnit

Actually Lonnit, I think the pose makes the image much more interesting - the way it distorts the perspective between his head and his arms really emphasizes his eyes and sweet smile. I've got to try this with one of my kids (if they'll let me) -john

Yup Lonnit, that is what I figured he was doing, lying on his belly with this feet behind. That is how it came across to me as.

Cheers, Vikas.

Now first of all I thought he was standing, then I thought he was sitting. Very weird angle you got but a good creative one. And I like the natural lighting on his face too.
ctfchallenge02-Jul-2005 04:25
Thanks Shu.

Now the question - Is anyone noticing that those are his feet at the top of his head? I ask b/c I'm realizing that a quick glance, it looks like he's sitting with his arms in his lap. In acuality, he is lying on his belly, propped up on his elbows, and his feet are behind his head. Is it being seen right? ~ Lonnit

It's amazing what that fisheye has done to that boy! (Made him cuter, that's what!) Nice one, Lonnit. Shu

Wow! What a way to start a challenge - a comment from both my heroes!!!!! Thanks :) I guess it really does help to be excited about a challenge. I so missed my fisheye. I'd been craving it this week. I've just been so attached to the 24-70L that I couldn't get it off my camera. I'm thrilled that Gayle picked wide angle to motivite me to put the fisheye back on. :) ~ Lonnnit
