Shu, your plates image although it is artisitc in color combinaition and has abstract qualityto it, it just doesn't IMHO, spell out "wide angle" when I look at it. Maybe it's because of the top view? Maybe it's because of my own inability to get a grasp on any kind of sense of size perspecive for the plates (there's nothing to compare them to in the image to give one a sense of size) but there's still something missing (*) for me. Ofcourse if I didn't find it interesting in some way, I wouldn't keep coming back to it :-) Markjay

Thank you, Nancy. I have centered the white tile as suggested and even tho I've attempted to get a winder angle, I have not been happy with the results. I have the same lens as Vikas, but for the life of me, I can't seem to shoot at a lower angle, mainly because the undersides of the pasta plates are white. Did the best I can with this one and, BTW, the backgrou nd is a black table with some side reflections at the top.The reflections may be too distracting. I think they add something positive, but I could be wrong. Shu

I've kind of been following this "saga," and have to agree that this composition is better. I liked the other one too, though, so there you go. I love how you lit the background (how did you do that?).

I guess the only nit I have is that since this is a symetrical composition, then the plate stack should be more centered horizontally and that white square on the bottom should be centered between the yellow and red plates, aligning with the on-end square sitting on the green plate. The stripey things on each end should probably also line up with each other, although for some reason I think I could buy into their placement-- probably because they feel like they are a part of the background somehow. Overall, I'd say well done, Shu ;-) --Nancy/odigi

I like the plates but not the black and white things. I would love to try my hand at a still life using plates like these. Here's an idea.....arrange the plates so the edges are staggered, then get down low so the lens is level with the edges of the plates. If you get close enough the curved edges should be accentuated by the wide angle.
Are you getting what I mean? use the wide angle for creativity rather than to fit as much into the frame as possible.

It's getting better, Shu. This one is a little more pleasing to look at then your first attempt but, might I suggest maybe just have the plates stretch out across the entire image in one your usual excellent compositions? (Stagger them across). Markjay

Dare I ask "How is this?" Shu (Shiverrrrrrrrrr)

Shu, I would suggest to let soem o fthe plates go out of the frame. It will make the picture a little more dynamic. theFly

Thanks, I will. I want to use these guys and that is a challenge in itself! Shu

Oh, here's a tip that might help. The plates have curved edges.......if shot from low down and up close, the contrasting colours on the edges will pop out at the viewer. Try a different set up with that in mind.

Shu, wide angle is simple for no one. It makes you think, it makes you try new angles and it forces you to look at the world differently. It wouldn't be much of a challenge if it was simple for everyone :-)

(That's what I thought!) Thanks, guys. I have never concentrated on wide angle shots, so as it may be simple for others, not so for me. I like these objects and color but need to rethink the composition. So far, however, I draw a blank-------------I'm sure you've all felt the same!
Thanks again. I learn valuable lessons from you guys. Shu

Shu, I tend to agree with Mark.....I like the colours and clarity but the whole thing looks a bit "slapped together". I'd love to see the plates in a wide angle still life that's shot from a lower angle.

you are a great creator of still life images, Shu. This particular one IMO is not one of your better works. (*) The setup looks just a little too "set-up" for me and a different angle may have brought out the shapes a little more. I do however like the idea behind what you were trying to do. Markjay
