Very cool discussion...I love Olaf's treatment, and the original is great, if not as graphic. -Ed Hahn

Olaf--Thanks for your clarification. Grafic photography certainly requires a different way of looking at a subject and that's what I'm learning from this challenge. Shu

To clarify: when I wrote "this type of photograph requires an even higher degree of simplification and abstraction to be truly successful" in my first comment, I didn't mean you should simplify this specific photo, using Photoshop. What I was trying to suggest was for another time, finding a neater and simpler subject - and then finding the right level of abstraction via your framing. I don’t know if that was any clearer, but hope so... --Olaf

Shu, I didn't even bother using layers, as I was just trying to quickly get an image void of details, just for the experiment. I wasn't being too careful. The only tools I used were the "Polygonal Lasso Tool", the "Eyedropper Tool", "Edit > Fill..." and finally the "Gradient Tool" (used only on the shaded side of the house from the front of the house to the chimney). [In reality, I used the keyboard shortcuts, but that is irrelevant and besides the point]. --Olaf

Olaf--I wish I knew enough about layers to create an image like the one you posted. I printed Nugar's layers tutorial and want to try it in order to have more artistic control over my images. Inasmuch as I would like to simplify "Eye-Full," I just don't know how to use the tools available at this time. Boy! What frustration!! Shu

Olaf--Omigosh! Just fabulous! (I'm glad you played with this image.I had thought of it, but my companion said to leave it as is). At least you and I are thinking along the same lines. I only wish I had posted your version. Shu

Now that I look at my abstraction of your photo, it looks almost like an Edward Hopper painting! Like I already said, great eye catching this! --Olaf

Funny title! I commend you for seeing this - it's an interesting composition of planes and fields of color. But IMO, this type of photograph requires an even higher degree of simplification and abstraction to be truly successful.
To convince myself, and maybe you and others, I tried to remove all detail from this photo, to see if it was in fact the detail that was distracting, here is the result:

I am not suggesting that you remove all detail from this photograph, but I thought it was an interesting and educational exercise, worth sharing...
