Ed - I've got several shots of the bird in different poses/attitudes and although no one was atempting to clip his wings here I thought this is how he might react if he new what not getting his wings clipped might mean. I've got a couple more shots posted at www.pbase.com/jeffreyhall/a_day_at_the_zoo if you care to have a look.
If anyone is interested in seeing more I'll be happy to post some... I must have about 50 shots.

Very colorful - my (useless) suggestion would be to perhaps capture the bird a little less beak-on? -Ed Hahn

Don't worry about that...it does show!!! Still like the shot!

Scott - Thanks for your comment. The eyes are a bit soft as I was shooting at f/4 and focused on the front of the bird. It was quite a character and I hope that shows through in spite of the narrow depth of field.

The colors on this shot are awesome!!! I find the birds face to be a little out of focus.

Very entertaining subject, nice shot. A more contrasting background might be nice, but probably hard to achieve.

Roberta,
This incredibly charismatic bird is at the Santa Barbara Zoo. A friend and I went last Friday and were a bit dissapointed that several of the exibits were closed and many had become very difficult to photograph because of higher fences, etc. We still had a pretty good day but we were passing this macaw on the way out. It got our attention and we spent about 45 minutes taking its picture while being totally entertained.

Jeff,
The parrot takes on an almost human-like expression. Does the parrot belong to you? Roberta

A lot of expression in this portrait! Love the way the parrot is holding up its "hand". A real communicator! --Olaf
