Thanks for the comments Steve. My hand does dominate the shot a bit but unfortunately I couldn't get any more of my face into this image as what you see is completely uncropped. Taking self portraits is a bit hit and miss, you don't know exactly what is going to be focussed on or how the shot will be framed. I could play around in photoshop perhaps to remove the annoying highlight in the background.

That Sigma lens does a very good job. This is a nice attempt, good exposure. But if you want a critical review, I'd suggest you could do some things to improve this image:

1) squint your eyes (or if you're as blind as I am, take off your glasses); what do you see? My eye goes to the hot spot behind your hand, and the keys. Remember that light tones PROJECT and dark tones RECEEDE.

2) Your hand is nearly in the middle of the image, and it dominates the face (which has been sliced in cropping). If you had the hand more BEHIND the edge of your face (or if you showed more of the face at the very least), it would permit the face to dominate...unless your original goal WAS a portrait of the hand.
