Asia minor to Malaysia.
The following 4 subspecies are being recognized:
Vanellus indicus indicus - East-Pakistan, India, Nepal and Bangladesh;
Vanellus indicus lankae - Sri Lanka;
Vanellus indicus aigneri - Pakistan to Southeast-Turkey;
Vanellus indicus atronuchalis - Northeast-India and Myanmar to North-Malaysia and Indochina.
