Central and Northern South America.
The following 3 subspecies are being recognized:
Speothos venaticus venaticus - Colombia, Venezuela and the Guianas to Peru, Central-Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay and Northeast-Argentina;
Speothos venaticus panamensis - Panama;
Speothos venaticus wingei - Southeast-Brazil.
