This is a nice diagnostic shot of a Common Tern. The relatively large bill, noticeable neck, and, best of all, dark wedges on the upper wing distinguish it from an Arctic Tern. Common vs. Arctic Tern is one of the most difficult I.D.'s in birding, so welcome to the club of struggling with these two.
