Ancestral Homes
We split up into smaller groups, and armed with maps and old documents, we tried to locate the actual homes our families in which our family had lived
The townspeople lined up to see us leave the library
After years of Soviet domination the buildings tilted leftwards
This plan identified the Hilda's grandparent's land
This plan showed the house next door
It still stands, abandoned
Sodu street has been renamed
The empty land is where the Dworetz home stood
The foundation of the house two door away can still be seen
Wells are still in use
The Archivist
Synagogue Street
The Mill of Schmidt provided electricity
The railway station from which many of the families left before the war
Sam Dworetz (left) and friend went to the Army in 1928
The toilet at the station probably has not been cleaned since they went to the army
At the end of the day a rainbow appeared!
