Endemic Species

This gallery contains images of all the animals we encountered that are unique to the Galapagos Islands and exist nowhere else in the world. Although in some cases an endemic species is similar to one found elsewhere, these species have evolved uniquely due to the relative isolation of these islands from the rest of the world. It is also fascinating to us that in some cases the same species has evolved to different sub-species on different islands due to the isolation between islands. We saw this with the iguanas, lizards, and giant tortoises!
