North Pasture
Below the fire tower lies the North Pasture. It is often a good place to spot wildlife, like the black bear sitting up in the right center of this image, no doubt enjoying some wild raspberries. As black bears go, she is pretty impressive in size, although it's hard to appreciate from this long distance. I was glad for the distance, however, as there are three cubs - triplets, hidden away in the bushes surrounding her. I would have liked some family pictures, but fortunately I still retain some measure of good sense when behind the lens.

Summer Storm
A summer storm about to sweep over the Pitcher Mountain fire tower.
When it hit, a ferocious wind tipped over my tripod. I caught it, fortunately, and ran for cover below treeline.

Oasis
Always, it seems, there is water present on this rock at the top of the mountain.

Winter Glow
The setting sun spreads a glow on the snow between dormant blueberry bushes.
Frozen Berries
In three months these highbush blueberries will begin leafing.
In six months they will be heavy with wild blueberries.

Pitcher Mountain and the firetower are hidden in the clouds on this overcast day.
Fittingly, the farm raises Scottish Highland cattle.

Someone's House
Someone (not me) has built a fine looking house in a fairly remote location.
This view is facing east to one of the surrounding hills which is actually much farther away than it appears here.
Southern Exposure
Looking south. Island Pond is just visible among the trees to the left center.
Beyond the pastures sits Mount Monadnock, hidden from view among the clouds.
Wind Power
To the north, the wind turbines in the town of Lempster, New Hampshire, are visible.
These are a fairly recent, and somewhat controversial, addition to the landscape.
They are actually much more distant than they appear in this image.
Blueberries
In the right foreground and beyond the frame are acres of highbush blueberries that flourish in this environment.
In July and August, the tasty berries attract both humans and bears, with plenty to go around.
Topside
In the summer it is always breezy and cooler on top of the mountain.
In the winter, the wind is constant, quite strong and forceful, at times unbearable.

Westward Ho
Looking west from the top of Pitcher Mountain in New Hampshire.
Vermont mountains are visible on the horizon.
Somewhere down there, among all those trees, is my house.
Firetower
At 2153 feet, Pitcher Mountain is small in stature. The panoramic view, however, is incredibly commanding and far reaching, hence the presence of the state owned and operated fire tower.
Pick Your Own
Pitcher Mountain is a popular spot for wild blueberries, with approximately 30 acres of high bush berries surrounded by some diverse and beautiful New Hampshire forest land.
