2:00 PM: Around mid-day, I drove out of the main canyon back to the eastern part of Zion looking for more interesting shots. I spent about two hours first shooting over this particular gorge, then hiking down and along it for a couple hundred yards. At this point, I was very thankful for the cloudy skies which persisted this day, as they allowed a continuation of the shooting without the harsh lighting of full daylight. The scattered maples along the canyon floor offerred a multitude of photographs, and I created many images here. However, this classic wide angle composition gave me what I was looking for. I was shooting within inches of the closest leaf, and as such had to stop down to my smallest aperture to hold focus throughout the image.
