Love these pictures! I saw something unusual on my wild rose bush. Some kind of strange looking beetle. I was starting to pick them off when I remembered a picture I'd seen somewhere. I recalled that Ladybugs can be really ugly, and be mistaken for some kind of beetle, so I stopped and observed what I had found. As it turns out, it was a Ladybug in a second stage from the one I've seen pictured. Like your Ladybug larva that is mostly black with a little orange. The second stage was a beetle that was orange and black. These turned into Ladybugs. Just want people to know there is another stage. I also noted that the black and red beetle left their skin behind. The red and black also shed skin and turned into a Ladybug. She was very pale at first with no spots, but spots developed as she dried out. I see the comments are short, but I wonder if you know of a 2 inch bee that is black with kind of a black and white checkerboard butt? It has some white around it's head also. I have been plagued with ants and aphids this year. I was thinking of using some natural pesticides on the ant and aphids when I noticed this bee (wasp) pick an ant off the infested plant. Next day there were half a dozen of these bees. I can't seem to locate them on the web. Might you know what these are? I'm letting nature take it's course.
