Cappadocia photos 2

More Cappadocia photos (Kapadokya), this time by ground, after heady balloon ride.

Layers of soft ash ("tufa") from volcano activity were covered by harder layers,
the softer material eroding, and leaving the formations we see.

Homes and underground cities were carved from this soft material.
