A bit of a departure from the usual PotD stuff if recent days really just to prove I do still have my mobility and am not afraid to expose myself to the natural elements. This is one of the 'Real Time Displays', as featured in this week's local Journal, that have been installed at bus stops along the Grantham to Lincoln route. Some people will tell you Grantham is behind the times and not so long ago it was dubbed 'the the most boring town in England' by a mischievous national newspaper. However these signs are using cutting edge satellite technology to read information from buses so anxious bus passengers will be able to check whether there will be 'one along in a minute'. The London Underground style digital signs will be up and running next month. I can't help wondering just how many people will benefit in a life changing way from this £1million scheme and if the money would be better spent tackling drug related crime that dominates the Journal pages week in, week out. Just my 2/100.

"life changing way" That's a pretty high standard! None I suppose. But a million pounds on drug rehab could reduce that problem and change a lot of lives.

Our metro stations have new signs that tell us how long til the next train arrives. It seems many people are much happier knowing that the next train won't arrive for 9 minutes, or maybe is only 3 minutes away. Maybe it keeps all the Type-A people here from an early death caused by the stress of not knowing. Most people, even me, like knowing, especially off hours when its 20 minutes between trains. Not as cool as these signs though.

Nice choice to include the church and shoot wide angle.

Ian: my turn for a rant. We have these in Woking but they first installed these on a route that ran every ten minutes, the most frequent we have. So if the bus had been cancelled, people only had to wait ten more minutes (hopefully!)The council, who funded the scheme, now say they cannot afford the rising costs of many Sunday services and so these have been cut back by 50%. At best, these are just 'feel good' displays that don't improve the services one iota. And another thing...................

IMHO...I feel it is charming to display the intinerary is such a manner.
