Definition A: A display used to identify or advertise a place of business or a product.

21st Century advertising can appear in many forms, but for this visual essay I am focusing on a sign as A display used to identify or advertise a place of business or a product. Although groups a1 – a7 are separated by their appearance, some of their content displays the same message. For example a3, a4, a5, a6 and a7 all advertise either the products or services on the premises, whilst a1 and a2 advertising the products themselves without necessarily being in the same location. Each advertisement in a2 has been painted by hand, recreating each brands logo. Advertising in this style is becoming less common in many countries, which is why these photographs have to be understood in relation to their county of origin.
