2019 Day 10: Courmayeur, Val d'Aosta, Italia (Tue 17 Sep 2019)

The northern border of Italia (the one with France and Switzerland, predominantly) is marked out by a mountain chain known as The Alps. On the western side of Italia, the smallest of its 20 regions (named Valle d'Aosta or Aosta Valley in English) sits just south of and part way into the mountain chain.
Many years ago I saw a YouTube video for a then-new cable car lift called Skyway Monte Bianco. Monte Bianco, known as Mont Blanc in French, is the highest mountain in The Alps and in Western Europe at 4,805.59 m, or 15,766.4'.
The cable car does not in fact go there; it goes to a summit called Ponte Helbronner (3,462 m or 11,358 ft). Ponte Helbronner is about 5 km or 3 miles from Monte Bianco, but you obviously get a great view of it from there.
Skyway Monte Bianco starts in the northern part of a town and comune (Italian spelling) called Courmayeur, a reasonably well known Italian ski resort with a population just north of 2,600.
As soon as I saw the video, I knew that I wanted to go there. I really, REALLY wanted to go there.
On the 2019 trip... we did.
This is the story of the first day of that trip, albeit one that is being posted more than 5 years after the fact.
