Lazio E Roma, Aug-Sep 2016 and Oct 2019

The Eternal City of Roma (Rome to English speakers) probably needs little introduction, and is my home town. Located about half way down the western side of the Italian peninsula, it was reputedly founded on 21 April 753BC and its 1,285 sq km (500 sq miles) is currently home to around 2.9 million people.

It is also the capital of Lazio, one of the 20 regions of Italia. Lazio is 17,242 sq km and is on the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea, a part of the Mediterranean Sea.It stretches back as far as the Apennine mountains which run down the centre of Italia. On the northern side are the regions of Toscana (Tuscany) and Umbria, to the east the relatively little known Abruzzo and Molise, and on the southern side (more south east, given the way the coast runs) there is Campania, home of Napoli (Naples), Mt Vesuvius and Pompeii.

Lazio is divided into the following provinces:
[*] Viterbo (VB), the most northerly province which runs along the Tyrrhenian coast and meets up with Toscana.
[*] Metropolitan City of Rome Capital (RM), which sits to the south east of that, again along the coast. This replaced the former Provincia di Roma at the start of 2015. In Italian the correct name is La città metropolitana di Roma Capitale, and in me-speak the correct name is "home" or "la mia casa".
[*] Latina (LT), the smallest of the 5 provinces which runs to the south east of La città metropolitana di Roma Capitale, again along the coast, and borders the region of Campainia (home of Napoli (Naples)).
[*] Rieti (RI) juts up into the mountains to the north east of Roma, about half way along the province. This meets Umbria to the north west, Abruzzo to the south east, and a small part borders Le Marche.
[*] Frosinone (FR) is a landlocked province that sits above Latina, and shares the major part of its north east border with Abruzzo, a small eastern border with the region of Molise, and a south west border with Campania.

Most of the shots from Roma will be in galleries which relate to the specific day we visited, simply because there will be so many of them. In this parent gallery I'll only keep any shots from Lazio that don't fit into other galleries, plus any map screenshots.
