This is... sadly, WAS, now... Lancelot Hill Antiques which describes itself on its Faceplant page as "Purveyors of Old Wares. The original antique store in the Southern Highlands. Bowral NSW". Its actual web site, still up at the time of writing, states that it was established in 1964. The final Faceplant post of the business states that it was created by Lancelot Hill, the founder, "in the heart of a once upon a time country town, Bowral". True enough; Bowral in 2022 would be barely recognisable to someone transported there from the year 1964.
Lancelot Hill himself died back on 2 August 2018. The family took on the business, enthusiastically so at first, as far as I can see from the Faceplant postings. But these reduced dramatically in number over the course of 2020 to 2021, and you can probably guess why. Antiques are not something that can be sold easily on line. People want to see them, touch them, smell them even. Covid and the lockdowns that we had last year (especially the ones that prevented Sydney residents from taking trips to regional areas) must have gutted the business.
In any case, the final post on the business' Faceplant site, dated 24 January, read:
---
"A complete tribute to the one and only Lance Hill, the creator of the unique original antique store in the heart of a once upon a time country town, Bowral. A true icon, creator of a truely iconic antique store. Very loved by many and very missed.
We now are closing the doors for the very last time. And are very excited to hand over to the new creators of the special space, in the heart of a now very busy town.
Much love from our family to yours and a big thank you to the community and visitors who have enjoyed Lancelot Hill Antiques over the many years Lance shared his dream with us all.
Scott, Alysha, Morgan and Darcy x"

We were there on February 26, so we missed the opportunity of seeing it as anything other than an empty store with a "Sold" sign (and the traditional Union Jack symbols), by a little over a month.
