Apparently we sat on the left of the ferry on both trips, unfortunately; it means that there are few if any shots of Giudecca Island to the south. This is the first view that we have of the church of Santa Maria del Rosario, better known as I Gesuati. (Note: GesuAti, not GesuIti, the better known Jesuit order.) The Gesuati was a minor order which existed between the 1300s and the mid-1600s when the Pope disbanded it. When that happened the Franciscans bought the land on which the church that we see here sits, though the older name has stuck.
The current church was constructed between 1725 and 1755.
