This shot shows Flinders Street railway station (also seen in image 3594, albeit without the dome that (as you can see here) could do with a bit of refurbishment), and the less architecturally chaotic part of Federation Square which is on the corner of Flinders and Swanston Streets.

Federation Square was a $260 million project which was intended to celebrate the centenary of Australian federation, though that actually occurred in 2001 and the square officially opened in October 2002.
The square is home to a lot of open air cafes, the Melbourne Visitors centre, and public performance spaces.
