+ June 11, 2022, our third of 8 days in Wales on a Road Scholar trip was another beautiful day in North Wales. We spent the morning in Betws-Y-Coed where Conway led us on a walk through the historic and idyllic village. Go to Betws-y-Coed Gallery > https://pbase.com/abundancetrek/betwsycoed
In the afternoon we boarded the coach and went to the Isle of Anglesey where we visited the Penmon Priory, Cross and St. Seiriol's Well. It is in a beautiful location. You can see the mainland beyond the Menai Strait. Coming and going we got to see the historic Menai suspension bridge built over a narrow part of the strait in 1826. The strait is known for its powerful reversing tidal currents and accompanyiong whirlpools. It was difficult for the ferries to traverse the strait.
On the way back to Betws-y-Coed we stopped in Caenarfon where there is another one of those castles built by Edward One making it possible for England to take over all of Wales in the late 13th century. After that we went through a beautiful portion of the Snowdonia National Park.
