The quake of '89

San Francisco, California

I lived in San Francisco's Marina district and the neighborhood got hit pretty hard by the quake. My house and my bike shop were both OK. These two buildings did not fare so well, and I believe they were both torn down. The same day I shot this photo I was standing with a small group of people looking at a couple of houses which had fallen forward into the street. One guy says "that sure doesn't look like a $500,000 house to me!" A fireman standing on the other side of the barrier turned around and said "It's not a $500,000 house. It's a $10,000 house valued at $500,000."
