While Jajce was under seige a Bosnian woman gave birth to twins in the basement of the hospital. Serbs were shelling the facility regularly and most of the windows on upper floors had been blown out. The doctor told me the woman was not lactating and there was no formula and that the twins were doomed. Next time I'm in Bosnia I'm going to try and track down the parents to see if the girls survived. The father was on the front line just 100 mtrs. away and frequently came to see his new daughters. Before the war nearly all of the hospital staff was Serbian. This nurse, a Serb, is one of five who did not disappear just before the shelling started.
