Roy Buchanan Gallery

Roy was a guitar player's guitar player. A journeyman genius who avoided any spotlight. I had the pleasure of seeing him perform...once in the 70's and twice in the mid-80s. I had tickets for a show in September of 1988 when he tragically died on August 14, 1988. These images are from the first time I saw Roy on stage in Dallas during December of 1976.

Saw Roy at the Coogee Bay Hotel in Sydney back in the 80s. Great show. As this guitar got older it became more battered but Roy could sure make it sing. BV for bringing back some great memories.

I was at this show, center stage standing right in front of Roy... KZEW recorded the show and you can her me screaming "Rock and Fucking Roll" during the whole concert.. It was easy getting into the Electric Ballroom at the age of 15 during those years...Also saw Savoy Brown and a show featuring Frank Marino & Robin Trower at the same time...Those were the days !...

Big vote for this gallery of one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Just love his cover of Neil Young's Down by the River. Inspired me to put on an OLD VHS documentary that had Bill Graham introducing him on stage in MD with a kid guest guitarist Nils Lofgren.... ( v ) The Mesiah will come again...Go Buch Go!

Best pics I have seen of genius Buchanan! I loved his music and it's a shame he's not around anymore. Ik saw him in de mid-80s in Paradiso in Amsterdam. Very loud but awesome.
