In Front Of The Jefferson Memorial
Going faster than I've ever seen a helicopter move. This sure looks like the ride that picks up and delivers the Pres and his wife from time to time. In any event, whatever this is, it is sure a beautiful bird. I don't know if you can see it on the thumbnail, but on the Large version, you can see a reflection of the Memorial Columns on the sheet metal between the base of the rotor, and the exhaust.

Jefferson And his Words Await
The thoughts carved into the interior walls of the memorial still ring true today. The statue of Jefferson is very large, and very impressive.

Washington Monument and Engraving and Printing
Engraving an Printing are on the right. I think. This is an absolutely huge building.

Washington Monument as Seen From The Jefferson Memorial
I only had my long telephoto with me, and I could not fit the entire reflection in the image. Started in 1848, and stalled because of the Civil War and a lack of funds, the monument to our first president was not completed until 1884. At the 156 foot mark you will see a difference in the color of the stone. This is the point at which the construction stalled until funds were available to complete the 555' structure.

Jefferson Memorial Columns
A nice close-up showing the grain in the stone columns, and their relative size.

Jefferson Memorial
Due to the time of the day, and selecting this angle, it required shooting this into the light. As a result, the image looks "flat", but it still has some appeal. This was my first vistit to the Jefferson Memorial, and it didn't disappoint.

DuPont Circle Fountain - Detail
I muffed it. I said I was not at this site when it wasn't covered with people, but this image proves otherwise. I could have, and should have gone around the entire statute making note of the inscriptions and the sculptures, but I didn't. I have discovered from this, however that it was apparently dedicated in 1865. To appreciate the size of the fountain, note the blonde woman, barely visible due to the facing light sitting on the lower fountain rim, on the back, right-hand side. This was shot at ISO 800 in very poor light.

Widow's Walk over a corner room
I kept coming back to this old-timer. The circular outlook on the 3rd floor reminded me of a similar outlook in some scarey movie that I've seen sometime in the past 20 years, but I can't quite place it. Does anyone have a clue what movie I might be thinking of?

Pennsylvania Ave Just N. of the Smithsonian
I was attracted to all of the detail in the column, and at the top of the building. Great detailed work that is no longer a part of construstion today due to the cost. When I zoomed in on the detail at the top of the column, I noticed something very unusual. See the next image for that detail and the questions.

Odd Wires - Anti-Pigeon Device?
See comments in previous image, and this question. What are these for? I didn't notice them until I had zoomed in. Interesting. What beautiful detail at the top of this column.

Dupont Circle Navy Fountain - Sunny Day
During the winter, the rountain is drained and does not run. This is a beautiful work of art and I have not done it justice, as I have not included the very large top bowl in this photo. This I believe was put up as a Memorial to the U.S. Navy. I could never make out the entire inscription because every time I was in the area the base served as a seat for the many, as seen here. This was taken on one of the last days of winter, and people were enjoying the sun. This will also go in the "DC Places" album.

Architecture From An Earlier Era
I like the older buildings and appreciate the style as much, if not more than the ultra-modern structures of today. This is one of several examples here. Taken near 6th and Pennsylvania.
