Anza Borrego Desert

Anza Borrego Desert State Park is about a two-hour drive from San Diego.
In the summer, this desert is a very harsh place. Temperatures sometimes exceed 50 C (122 F).
However, in the spring, the desert usually comes to life with beautiful displays of wildflowers.

Sorry, all the comments below belong into the 2005 gallery. I should have renamed the whole gallery, rather than moving the earlier pictures from this gallery into the 2005 gallery.

Nice to see these. I was up there yesterday (Feb 10) just as the drizzling rain began to hit in Borrego Springs and late in the day (3-4ish). Wasn't really a good time to be setting up tripods so I shot handheld with my Rebel (same as your model). The burn areas in between Julian and Cuyamaca were especially dramatic under the ashen sky and with the wet blackness of all those burned trees. The flowers and greenery in general in Anza Borrego was just overwhelming. Best I've seen here in 25 years! Regards, - Dan Chusid

Thanks, Dave. Hopefully, the current rains won't wash away too much. We're hoping to go back the last weekend of February. We want to smell those desert lilies!

I'm hoping it's going to be a Jan-April wildflower season in the park - it's raining tonight there tonight, which will extend the season in the canyons above the floor of the desert. You have some beautiful photographs of a beautiful place.

Very, very nice. Did you find the spot in Anza/Borrego where the Mormon Battalion hacked away a bit of rock for their handcarts??
