National Wildlife Refuges (NWR's) are managed by the US Fish & Wildlife Service. NWR's are much less well known than national parks and monuments which are administered by the US National Park Service. The NWR's main mission is to conserve wildlife and their habitats. There are currently more than 500 NWR's throughout the US. Many of these NWR's provide wonderful and unique photographic opportunities.
