The Jesuitenkirche (Church of the St. Ignatius and St. Francis Xavier) is the primary Roman Catholic church in Heidelberg’s Old Town (Altstadt). Construction of the church began in 1712 under Elector Johann Wilhelm and architect Johann Adam Breunig and was finished in 1759. In stark contrast to many ornate South German Baroque churches, the interior features bright white walls, limestone piers, and clear/tinted glass.
