The Jesuitenkirche (Church of the St. Ignatius and St. Francis Xavier) is the primary Roman Catholic church in Heidelberg’s Old Town (Altstadt). Construction of the church began in 1712 under Elector Johann Wilhelm and architect Johann Adam Breunig and was finished in 1759. Built from local red sandstone in the Baroque style, its dramatic main facade features a multi-tiered design adorned with pilasters, decorative niches, and statues of Saint Ignatius and Saint Francis Xavier.
