These photos were from two seperate trips to Dresden in 2009: June and then September. The pictures from the September trip are placed on the top of the gallery.
Dresden is the state capital of Saxony in Germany. ‘Florence of the north’, the Saxon capital was called in the 18th century, when it was a center of artistic activity presided over by the cosmopolitan Augustus the Strong and his son Augustus III. Their vision produced many of Dresden’s iconic Baroque buildings, including the Zwinger, the Frauenkirche and the Hofkirche.
The city center was completely destroyed by fire-bombing air raids of the British and American air forces between the 13th and 15th of February, 1945. Much of old center city was not rebuilt until after the unification of Germany.
Dresden was listed as an UNESCO World Heritage Site from 2004 to June 25, 2009. It was delisted the day after my first visit in June, 2009. Please refer to http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/1156 for the controversy of its delisting.
