Winter was a difficult time for those of us separated from our loved ones back home. The weather kept us from spending much time out-of-doors. Yes, we had some of the diversions that I have mentioned previously. We had the movies that ran every evening in the rec hall. We had the hobby areas such as the photography dark room and the leatherworking shop. We had the club where we could while-away the time with our friends. However, we were always looking for other ways to occupy our time and keep morale high. During the winter of 1971, we decided to have a "Las Vegas" night. It was a huge success! Gambling was prohibited on station by the Air Force, but we had a lot of fun "pretending." We set up our "casino" in the rec hall. Notice that there were no ladies at the party, as there were none stationed at the site during that period.
