As one approaches Phetburi from the north, Khao Wang (Palace Mountain) is quite striking. Here, King Mongkut built a summer palace in 1860 in neo-classical style -- Phra Nakhon Khiri. It is now a national historical park. The palace includes a celestial observatory and a royal temple.
