Sorry, I forgot the most important part about my brother Michael Angel Lopez. He was known throughout Venice as "Loper", because that was what L.A. County Jail and the Police Department had him under.

To whom this may concern. My brother Michael Angel Lopez was "VENICE" through and through. He lived on the boardwalk and was everyone's bodyguard. He hung out at Hinanos, the Venice Square, knew all of the Hells Angels, Local Chicano's, Blacks, Hippies. Whenever you needed back up, he was there. I am sure many reading this could and will attest to this. I can supply you with pictures of my brother. I'm sure many would comment. He was the originator of making a bike rack to carry your surfboard (longboard) in his days. He was also everyones ride or mechanic. He loved the ladies, and I'm sure they can tell you why, lol!

I attended Venice High with Kevin McComb and Pat Sleeper,they were a class ahead of me '74. Pat was always a joker...while I was in Class one day he walked the halls yelling my name in a Spanish Accent " Anita Romo"...I sunk in my seat of embarrassment. It' a shame to see pics of me and my brother Baby Paul. When we were young it was all so crazy, fun and somewhat inocent. But then you have to grow up and realize that with your actions come consequences. Sometimes the cost is death which you cant reverse, and it sucks. Tonight we have his daughter for a visit and it brings tears to my eyes, the loss is still fresh in my heart.

I guess I should make it clear that this never set out to be an all-inclusive memorial....and there is no "you guys" here. These are simply all pictures that I shot back in the day. When I learned, with some certainty that someone who was a member of this group, someone I had photographed, had died I gave them a place in this gallery.... but remember, I moved out of Venice more than 20 years ago.

I've heard of so many, it's depressing. It also makes you wonder, "is this the way it is for all, or just Venice?" If anyone knew Karen Enloe, i understand she was murdered or overdosed in a motel in San Diego. That was about six years ago, I'm not sure. Greg Hislop, I understand jumped out of a window, due to drugs. Another student was shot at Venice just a couple of years ago in the parking lot near the new building. Curse of Venice? Either way, even though I'm not there, I miss Venice.

Wow, Kevin, Scott, Pat and Mike. I spent so many wonderful times with them. I was especially close to Pat and Scott. The 70's were tough times in Venice. So many friends from back then are gone. I wonder some days how I made it to where I am today...
Lobster John taught my uncles how to free dive (60 years ago) by tying 6 packs to a bouy with a rope. Each time he made the rope longer. They liked beer so they got pretty good.
Lobster John made the best margaritas ever! It must have been all the years he spent in Mexico (until his accident that left him with the injury that plagued him the rest of his life.)

My name is Ananda.......Dylan is my brother. I was wondering if I could get a copy of the picture you have posted on the website. My son Joshua sent me the link tonight and I sure was suprised to see the picture that John (of Man and Wife) fame had taken of Dylan on your site. My mother hated that picture and as far as I know got rid of it........it was taken right before Dylan drowned at the Breakwater. Would love to hear back from you.

I don't think I do, but I'm not sure. I've been keeping my eyes open for one, thinking he might show up on a more general picture of the Pavillion life guard stand area. If I find one I'll post it for sure!
