Long Neck

Florida

This photo is interesting because it shows the length of the anhinga neck when fully extended. Normally, the neck has a curved position and held closer to the body. When hunting for fish, the Anhinga swims underwater and uses its sharp bill and long neck to strike and spear fish. Sometimes the fish become stuck on the bill, requiring the anhinga to swim to shore and pull the fish off by scraping it on shore.
