Anhinga: Water Rockets

The Ahhinga is an interesting combination of components: a long neck, sharp stabbing bill, duck-like webbed feet, ability to swim submerged, and strong capable flyers. The Anhinga truly is master of both water and air. They are called darters by some, due to their ability to swim very fast with agility underwater. They carry with them their own speargun in their coiled neck and sharp bill. In the air their powerful wings and broad tail allow them to fly fast also with agility. Often, they ride the afternoon thermals, soaring to great heights... just because. On land or in the trees they seem a bit awkward.
