I like this composition very much. It reminds me of the work of the artist R.C. Gorman, who uses sweeping curves and strong colors this way. It also struck me that the subject of your photo is made up of curved lines, while the background contains distinct straight lines. It all balances nicely, and I think that the close crop helps it work so well.
