On 6-7 August 2005, I joined 14 other members of the YHA Bushwalking Club on a walk to the summit of Mt Feathertop, which is the second highest mountain in Victoria (1922m ASL). We headed up the endlessly uphill Bungalow Spur on Saturday morning and reached the newly constructed Federation Hut just after lunchtime. We then put on our snowshoes or crampons and marched up the final approach to the summit with walking poles and ice axes in our hands. We camped around Federation Hut on Saturday night and walked back down the hill the next morning.
It's definitely the best winter walk I've done and hopefully I can do it again next year. You can see the summer walk photos from 2004 here or an earlier winter trip to Federation hut here
