It's neat to see how widespread Roman technology was. I have a very similar picture of Roman ruins that I took in Bath, England. The Romans had heated floors and walls in their homes. The stacks of tiles you see in the picture were used to elevate the floor, and they would maintain a fire in a separate room that sent heat under the floors and into the walls.
